It is one of the largest habitats for the endangered Florida Scrub Jay and is also home to Florida’s largest concentration of Osprey nests. It is also hosts a habitat for the rare Red Cockaded Woodpecker at the Avon Park Air Force Wildlife Range. Other sitings around area often also include: Florida Grasshopper Sparrow, Sandhill Crane, Burrowing Owl, Swallow-tailed Kite several varieties of egrets and more.
